Our Vision ...
It was shortly after the start of the new millennium... a new idea was born. During a friendly round of golf – while casually strolling the fairways, Allen DePuy and Dan Stonionis, two industry veterans, laughed, joked and talked about their past experiences from a lifetime in golf and where the game was heading – a vision was developed.
 A vision to provide simple straight forward philosophies and insight to golf course owners, a vision to move beyond mediocrity and provide meaningful advice and a vision to do this at a reasonable fee structure.
As putts fell from hole to hole that day – our business venture Freedom Golf Services was born. Widely recognized for our golf operational expertise... FGS was acknowledged immediately by Textron Financial Corporation, the largest golf specialty lender in the nation, we set forth on our first venture in Northeast Tennessee – implementing our "blueprint" for Crockett's Ridge Golf Club . An arduous task – timetable delays, lack of equipment with a golf season upon them – the tandem did what was necessary to get the job done. A mere 30 days later club revenues exceed expenditures for the first time in four years.
So began the FGS story - others soon followed – Florida, New Hampshire, Michigan, Illinois, Virginia, South Carolina, Georgia, back to Tennessee again! and Pennsylvania – in each instance families, board of directors, institutions and municipalities received the same straight forward approach to the business. Yes, it is a business where profitability is sought and obtained, but to us it is also about honoring the traditions of the game – making our facilities and enjoyable atmosphere – providing an entertaining environment to our customers. We have been tireless promoters of the game to countless golfers, both young and old alike.
However even the greatest stories are often touched by tragedy - as was the case with Freedom Golf Services, when our friend, our colleague and our partner Dan Stonionis passed away in a boating accident doing what he loved most ~ fishing off the Florida Keys. Out of respect for his past colleague, co-founder Allen DePuy opted to lower the Freedom Golf Services flag in honor of his departed friend and start anew with a new business entity in Commonwealth Golf Group.
The name on the door has changed, however the blueprint for success remains the same... we provide our clients the opportunity to enjoy their investment, void of the burdens of strategic business planning, advertising, and agronomic schedules to provide the BEST POSSIBLE PRODUCT AT THE BEST POSSIBLE VALUE WITHIN THEIR MARKET PLACE.
